charge of arson. >> it was a rude, crude incendiary device. nothing sophisticated about it whatsoever. >> reporter: it happened after noon on thursday. the mall on wilson boulevard in arlington soon swarming with county and federal investigators. in is what it looks like inside? the 40-ounce beer bottle with gasoline and a lighted wick came crashing on to the floor in front of the restaurant. >> i heard the shatter of the bolt. it was 50 feet away and i looked up and i saw the smoke and there was flames for 10 secs. >> reporter: he said a group of coast guards ran over and stomp on the device. >> and it was strong and it's like a toss. it's not too much over there. >> reporter: police say during the so much for the suspect, they found a bag with three

other molotov cocktails up there on the second floor of the four-story mall. nobody was hurt in the incident. the attempted fire bombing did force the evacuation of the mall for several hours. >> we want to find out what is inside his head. what would call cause an individual to terrorize a local mall at lunch. >> engineer who has worked at major u.s. corporations. on his facebook page, he waited with -- graduated with a latch lor of science degree from georgia state and lived in staten island, new york, and here in the d.c. area. the judge here in alexandrea this afternoon, ordering him held in jail until his next court date. on monday, brian. developing in prince william county tonight, three women attacked at gun point. one sexually assaulted. that happened last night in the dunphry area. police are on the hunt for an armed man. fox 5s maureen umeh is in the newsroom with more.

good evening. >> reporter: good evening, will. they thought they had safety in numbers but the suspect was not deterred. he was able to get one of the women away from the group and sexually sexual assaulted her. this is a computer-generated composite sketch of the suspect. his face is partially concealed but the police hope someone will recognize him. police say the attack happened last night around 10 along fuller heights road near the intersection of mockbird heights road in the dunphry area. the women had left an event and they were walking home. police say one of them split off to head only and that is when the armed suspect accosted the other two women. he tried to rob them and didn't have money. they went back and got the third woman. when she didn't have any money either, the suspect got one of the women away from the group and sexually assaulted her. one of the women was able to call police. >> being in a group and level- headed, keeping your wits around you, you know, the fact they were able to do this even though it was long go --

ongoing, someone was able to call the police and shows it could have been worse. >> reporter: the approaching lights of the police car carried the suspect away. you have seen him, again, he's describe as a black male with a light to medium complexion, between 5'8", 5'10", 18 to 25 years old, wearing a large dark- hooded sweatshirt and faded baggy jeans and armed with a black-and-silver handgun. anyone with information, call police. >> i am sure police hope someone will notify them if they recognize the guy. thank you. also, d.c. police are asking for your help to track down a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in southeast. the woman told police she was walking wednesday night when a man approached her with a gun. he forced her into the bushes and left her unconscious. when she came to, she said there were since he sexually assaulted her.

tonight, the jury is deciding the fate of two prince georges county police officers. they accused of using excessive force and beating the university of maryland student. paul wagner is outside of the courthouse right now. paul. >> the jury went out at 3:00 this afternoon. a little after they left, they sent a note to the judge asking to see the video once more, even though they have seen it dozens this week and the difference being they wanted to see an enhanced version of the video. the courtroom was cleared and the jury sat there and watched it for 20 minutes. that tape has been going -- has been played over and over and over again this week, and today, the prosecutor used it again. this time, he went through it frame-by-frame. in his closing argument to the jury, the prosecutor used an enhanced version of the new infamous video to show why officers reginald baker and james harrison were guilty of a

crime. telling the jury if not for the video, they would not be in the crime. this is not force but assault. you hide it and move on and that is why neither officer filed a use of force report and that is why one later lied about it and the other apologized. the officers are trying to rewrite history, matching their actions with what is on the video and saying john mckenna was a threat when he was anything but. the defense attorney for reginald baker took a more bradramatic -- dramatic approach in his presenting a, telling the jury it was about perspective while wearing a riot helmet, holding a baton and carrying a shield. he said the students would tell you that john mckenna was skipping down the sidewalk while singing andwaying his hands in celebration. but officers who had been hit with ice and water and rocks that night, might instead see him charging and threatening

and punching. he said four seconds and four strikes with the baton and they want to make my client a criminal? harrison's attorney, david simpson, took 20 minutes to sum up his case telling the jury his client didn't do anything wrong. put yourself in his spot for four seconds, simpson said, and see what you do. jack mckenna was arrested that night and all charges were dropped. harrison and baker are facing charges of second-degree assault and misconduct in office. jack mckenna was back inside the courtroom today watching the closing arguments. in fact at one point, when they went through the video frame-by- frame, he got up from the seat and walked up right next to the jur so that he could -- jury so that he could so close up for him. the jury is composed now of six women and six men. it's unclear how long they're going deliberate. tonight, brian, we're going to go back inside and keep tabs on things. >> all right. in the meantime, it's sentenceing day for the shooter involved in one of the

deadliest murder sprees in the district in recent memory. this afternoon, sims was sentenced to 25 years in prison. he pleaded guilty to second- degree murder and other charges after opening fire on a crowd of mourners on south capitol street in march of 2010. sims helped police identify five other suspects who were involved in several shootings over the week's period. another big story toight at 5, the prince georges police officer killed in the crash was not wearing a seatbelt. that was the finings about the accident that killed this man. he attended that -- john henrehan attended the briefing and joins us with more. john. >> reporter: the officer was not wearing a seatbelt, and he mate have been speeding. according to the police chief in prince georges county, he did not cause the accident, which claimed his life. given the tremendous impact of the police cruiser into the base of the utility pole, it may not have made a difference

in this case. a grim-faced chief of police revealed to reporters at the time of the accident thursday afternoon -- . >> we have also confirmed the officer was not wearing his seatbelt. >> reporter: offduty officer kevin bowden was heading northbound on branch avenue, a divided four-lane highway with the speed limit is 55 miles an hour, around 3:00 p.m. on thursday and when his cruiser was apparently hit by a white sport utility vehicle. >> the actions of the driver of the suv involved in the crash caused the collision. the drive her been in the left- turn lane and, at some point, made a decision to cross the traffic colliding with the cruiser. >> reporter: the charges will likely be filed later against the allegedly lane-changing woman who was driving the suv. police say show has been hospitalized since the accident. officer bowden, who was 28 years old, was a six-year veteran of the department. he moved back with his parents

>> it's a statistical dead heat, within the margin of error and that is a dead heat among registered voters. so, this looks like it's going to go to the wire, basically, on whether the state approves expanded gambling and this would add table games like craps and roulette and black jack in addition to the video games they have, not live table games in addition to the video and a sixth casino in prince georges county, in addition to the five authorized. i think what is interesting about the results is four years ago, the state voted to have gamble negligent first place to allow them in the first place. just the video in five casinos. >> what is different this time? >> that is the question. i think there is a number of factors. i think some people think that,

enough already. some people are disgusted with all of the ads. i think that some people themon -- feel the money hasn't gone toward education as they hoped, hasn't been used the way they hoped and i think a big factor in this is that one of the, a casino company. >> right. >> is basically paying tens of millions of dollars to top this expansion of gambling. it owns the casino in west virginia. >> right. >> and it's funding a huge campaign to protect the interest in the west virginia casino. it doesn't want the competition. >> and not hitting out education. >> and it's not guaranteed that the money will go to education. and the way this works is the money does go in to an edge, all of the money from the state goes into an education trust

though iter and go to different places. some time on the weekends, we would go to perform at clubs and things of that nature. i was about nine years old, eight, 9 and we would get home about 3 in the morning and go to school. what i loved about it is that people used to throw money on the stage and we would put on our pocket and keep. >> i remember that. >> you remember that? >> yeah. >> a lot of the splits. >> i used to follow marlin around school to go to the candy store. he collected all of the money. >> he's no dummy. >> the music and fans have stood the test of time. why do you think that is when other genres have gone away? >> well, we have been able, blessed to do feel good music. when you do great music and have a great message, it will last and that is what we are blessed with and we'll continue to do that. we have always wanted to pass, not follow them. >> and back to michael for a

moment. i would imagine the good memories are what you focus on. i thought you might be able to share one memory from the big motown special years ago when he did the famous moon walk i understand he wanted to do something that stood out on stage and went to your mom. tell us that story? >> well, that moment at the motown, you know, the motown 25 with it was a magical show. michael didn't want to do television. we would go back stage and try to figure out what we were going do, and i think it was a conscience -- we said let's just hit a few things and do our thing and then my microphone had gone out, so michael gave me his and then michael came on to do billy jean. it was -- to see all of the acts and we wanted to be like

afternoon and evening. we start with a live radar to give you an idea taking place. the frontal system is to the west of the city. it was supposed to be just to the east of the city late this afternoon. and that was where the chance of showers or the thunderstorms were going to be the greatest station father tote west and to i-95 this afternoon and evening and the thunderstorms firing up. and not moving quickly to the east and mostly moving to the north-northeast last night and that is going to be slow to get them to the east and to the bay. they will probably take two, three hours and i think they will dissipate as well and before they go past the bay. in terms of what is happening, we're going to use sentinel radar and drilling down tighter here. can you see the movement with everything here, and this is a lot of heavy rain moving up and down to i-95. we have one cell that is

clearing, well, extreme eastern parts of prince william county there around dunphry and montclair and back to woodbridge, too and this is just crossing over the river into western parts of charles county. and waldorf, it's to the east, well to the west of you and slowly moving on off to the east. and we drove down a bit here in the city and again, a couple of waves and this is going to cross over 66, basically, and this is moving through arlington and alexandrea, and moving through arlington as well and to the north and east and to the north of us and west of owe-by-95. eventually, this will cross slowly over i-95 and bring folks some rain. no doubt, places like royal are getting wet here and we've had somecollege park as well and this is eventually heading on up to baltimore. we'll watch this the next few hours and i think there is a chance for that and sometimes

-- to help to fire up the showers and thunderstorms. 72 now here in the city. we have been warmer than that and cooler back out to the west and where the front is causing cooler temperatures. at 7:00, 66, and the showers possible and even as late as 9:00 and drying up late this evening and overnight and tomorrow is does not look bad and in the upper 60s and some clouds tomorrow afternoon, a spotty shower is possible and sunday looks gorgeous and bringing us clouds late day tomorrow and spotty showers. mostly fair out there and once we get through the showers and thunderstorms this evening, it will be nice overnight. the temperature gets down to 52 and here is how you see it tomorrow. lots of sunshine to start and we'll build clouds in the afternoon. have a spotty shower or two
